Couple hours after work
So i finished work a few hours early and decided that a couple hours fishing was needed I had my lure rods in the car and after speaking to Mike Cootes aka purple peanut the night before about his recent Blog and catches in this local stretch I decided to see if I could catch myself a perch or 2 on lures. I had yet to catch a fish on my new lure setup a shimano yasei 3-12g rod with a daiwa ninja 1500 reel loaded with 10lb bright yellow braid.
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and not another person was insight as I scrambled down the side of a bridge to the river. You have to be careful here as it is very steep.
But once you are down its like you are in the middle of nowhere. Bliss.

My chosen spot was the foot of the salmon ladder right next to the weir.
I started out on some small soft plastics but had no luck I've never caught on a soft plastic and really want to but it didn't seem it was going to happen today. I covered all the water before changing lure to a small brown trout fry crankbait I'd never used this lure before to I just dropped it in front of me to test the action where I could see it and found that it looked best with a stop start retrieve. So off out it went to the wall of the weir and I started to retrieve. About halfway back there was a tap tap tap on the rod tip and I was in. Yes I thought first fish on my new setup. The rod and reel are superb when a fish is on and I soon had it under control and it was my target a nice river perch.
Proper chuffed it took me ages to sort myself out after the obligatory photos and letting it go I managed to knot up all my braid and make a right mess so re rigged and went with a good old Spinner. No more look in this area so I had a wander downstream but time was running out and there was to be no more fish for me today but at least a christened my new rod.
