Evening on the yarrow

Managed to get a couple hours pass in the evening to go fishing so I grabbed my float rod and managed to get to the tackle shop for some maggots before it closed. I had already decided I was going to fish my local river the Yarrow on Chorley. I have only ever fished this river when it has been at normal water levels but today I knew it would be high as we have had a few days heavy rain. I had my swim picked out a nice deep glide on a bend just after some shallow fast water. I have seen lots of fish moving in this stretch.
(not from same day I fished)

As I got to my swim I confirmed my thoughts the river was pushing through abit. But not to much it was fishable. I chucked in a handfull of maggots and some mashed bread as I setup my rig and got it set running down the swim correctly.
I must of only had about half a dozen trots when the float buried and I was in. And I had an audience as well this stretch of river is on public land and very popular for dog walkers and I had been chatting to a fella who fishes but never on a river and he had never seen anyone fishing this river and he walks his dog down here most days😁😁 good news for me and the few people I do know who fish here.
Back to the fish well it shot off like a train down stream in heavier water than I am used my rod was bent over and the fish was staying deep and strong. My heart was racing could it be a big chub? I hoped so there was no tell tale shakes of a brown trout and this thing was hugging the bottom and staying strong. After what seemed like an age I managed to get control and get its head up and was a little disappointed to see it was a brownie although ho a good one for this little river. Once it was at the surface it decide now was the time for some acrobatics a couple of jumps and splashes and it was in the net. That wasn't easy as it's about a 6foot drop from the bank to the water where I was. Usually there is a mud bank you can get onto but this was currently under water. Fish safely in the net I scrambled back up the bank to admire my catch.
Lovely chunky brown trout couple of snaps and I got it back in the net and and let it recover in the current for a few minutes I had one last look before it kicked off and swam away.
I got myself sorted and started fishing again and for a good half hour nothing so I decided to move to the bottom of the swim and fish the bend. Just round the bend
Not a tap on the float after about 30 trots when I saw a fish rise at the other side of the river out of the main flow in a small back eddy. I chucked in a pinch of maggots and placed my float on top of them and somehow managed to keep my line out of the main flow the float started to move slowly upstream with the eddy and then stopped and just slid under slowly I struck and was in again result. This one wasnt as big as the last but still put up a good fight in the current.
Trout number 2. 😁
Again I had an audience with this capture and had people asking if I was going to eat it (not worth the effort in replying) left it in the net again to recover and off it swam. I decided to try this spot again and first cast float went under as soon as it touched the water this fish was better than the last it took me straight down stream and stayed deep once again I'm thinking chub please be a chub but it wasn't to be it was another wild brownie. These fish don't half put up a good fight for there size.
Chuffed to bits I fished on for abit longer but had no more luck.
There is more spots I know hold fish and plenty of unexplored areas of this beautiful little river to find. So I will be back soon hopefully with a tale of chub and more.
