Sea fishing for the first time.

I have always wanted to try sea fishing but had never had the opportunity to do so. I had a Google search and found some decent looking charters in Wales not to far but far enough to make a full day of it.
I spoke to My brother and we decided we would do it. My beautiful wife then said she would pay for it for my birthday :-) so I said I would pay for my brothers and we was sorted. Booked on the charter and the date was set in April a little early in the season but the only date we could both agree on.  The only issue was we that we would be sailing from around 6.30am so I didn't fancy driving down to Conwy to get there for then so my brother offered to pay for us to stay somewhere the night before. We got down to Llandudno and stayed in a little B&B for the night before the short drive down to Conwy in the morning.

We got to the meeting point and it was quite a cold morning we had no idea what to expect we had booked on with all tackle included so we needed nothing but ourselves others started to turn up and tackle up. With what looked like all manner of weird and wonderful tackle. Me and my brother got chatting to a few of the lads before the boat arrived and was assured that we would be put on some fish.

Four reasons  skippered by Richie Brownson and his lad.

We set off and headed for the first mark hoping for some Mackerel. Richie defiantly put us on the fish and soon everyone on the boat was bringing up 3-4 Mackerel at a time mixed in with some herring as well.
Everyone on the boat was catching well when the lad next to my brother shouted got a big herring here on this fellas rod (my brothers) me and my brother have never sea fished so we had no idea if it was considered a big fish or not but everyone on the boat was excited about it.

We finished the drift and Richie set us up again to work the same drift again everyone was catching steadily when my brother hit into something big that was giving him a good fight. The water here was crystal clear and you could see a long way down he had only gone and bagged himself a nice cod. Jammy git.

After this we moved out to deeper water to see if we could catch some more species.

Catch more fish we did first drop down I managed to catch a codling so at least was on par species wise with my brother.

The tactics had changed now earlier we was more vertical jigging for the Mackerel and herring now we was leaving the baited hooks static on the bottom when my rod tip started tapping and I was in it was another species to add to my list and was a dogfish. I was chuffed to bits but other anglers on the boat seemed to class them as abit of a nuisance fish.

To me it was just a good fish I caught about half a dozen of these good fun.

All in all a fantastic day could not of asked for better weather Richie and his lad could not of done more for us put us on the fish made brews and a bacon butty. Unhooked fish and Richie's lad can untangle line faster than an Olympic 100meter sprinter.

9 spices caught on the day whiting, Cod, pollack coalfish, Mackerel, herring, launch, Dab and dogfish. Will 100% be booking again for another trip.
