Frozen Adventure

Here Fishy Fishy

It Was a Very Cold Morning as I dropped the Mrs off at work the car read -1c.

From her work it was a 5 min drive to Adlington Angling centre. Parked up on the little Tesco car park grabbed some munch and then popped over the road to The fishing shop to grab a pint of there finest maggots.

Today was a recce and a bit of an adventure for the kids. I was meeting up with my brother Damon and his little one so the kids could have a play and we could have a fish on the river which we haven't done for ages.

Target Chub and Dace.

We got to the meeting point and it was just about light so we took our time and tackled up. One rod between us pint of maggots and a bit of spare end tackle is all we took apart from the 2 rucksacks full of drinks and munch for the kids. Its only a short walk to the river from where we where so no hurry. as we walked down the frost was glistening in the early morning sun and it looked beautiful.

The River looked amazing and i had high hopes we would be into some fish.

The First Swim of the Day looked very fishy as Damon set the rod up properly and got the float height correct i trickled some maggots in. few trots down and nothing. i had ago same nothing.

Kept trickling some maggots in and stopped for a brew and a smoke.

The kids where busy playing up on the field. and i said i would watch them and Damon could have a few more trots. couple runs down and he was in. little scrap later and he landed a pristine OOS Brown trout. so it was put back asap and we decided to move spots.

2nd Swim of the day was on a really nice bend with a good flow it was Jacobs turn now.

We was using a Centrepin reel so Damon cast it and then passed Jacob the Rod to Fish it as he hasn't got the hang of casting it yet. few trots and nothing.

Emily and Ruby are playing in the field behind and spotted something and both started shouting Eagle Eagle when I looked it was actually a Buzzard.

Damon Took over From Jacob and had a few casts and then was in again. He passed the Rod over to Jacob and he landed the fish. again another OOS Brownie so we stopped fishing this spot.

Emily and Ruby where both asking for snacks so we sat down had a brew and those 2 shared some soup.

Double Trouble

View From river behind us.

After this we walked downstream for a bit until we found another suitable spot to fish that would accommodate us all. My Turn now Really nice long stretch.

Trickled a little bit of bait in and set the depth. 20 min later nothing. Damon had a go. Nothing. we couldn't believe this section had no fish.

I moved down to the next hole and started Fishing there. This River is on a very public area and there are lots of dog walkers about mostly nice and a few stopped to chat and ask questions. as i was talking the float buried and i was in this was a bigger fish gave a good little scrap and again was a OOS brownie albeit bigger than the others. The dog walker was impressed with the fish and even asked if we had any of the Chub. we said that's exactly what we want but none are playing ball today. He gave us a few spots and was on his way. (Thankyou Mr Dog Walker).

Walked downstream a little more and spotted a Robin in the trees you couldn't miss it. it was the reddest robin I have seen and it looked like a postcard sat on the frost covered branches.

At this point a small stream enters the main river and there is a big logjam with a nice pool behind it. I reckoned we gave it ago. its only small and under normal conditions you could probably step over it but the recent rains and the logjam had kept a nice bit of water in it.

The flow was slow but consistent trickled some maggots in and sent the float in after them and it dropped  I was in. it was only a small fish but i instantly saw a flash of silver and then it was landed. a lovely little Chublet. Finally. Damon instantly took the rod and had ago. we had took a nice big landing net with us so we let the Chublet rest in that to see if we could tempt out another one. few trots down and Damon was in another Chublet placed in the net. Same again this time Jacob had the Rod few trots down and then Jacob was in. 3 Pristine little Chublets from a tiny little stream from one swim. i suspected there was more fish to be had here but nothing showed and the banks where not the best for the little ones. So we called it a day. 2 fish a piece and a good walk on a Icy Frosty morning.

Plenty of wildlife seen or spotted signs of. Buzzard Deer tracks Robin and even a kingfisher which is always nice to see. Also a very Brave squirrel running out in the open on the opposite bank considering the buzzard was about.

Until Next Time Tight Lines...
