Lovely Chubly

Sorted out with my brother Damon last night to have a couple hours on river with him and little lad in a couple of easy access swims we have. I have to drop the wife off at work for 9am so would meet him there afterwards. The morning was very overcast and blustery so I messaged him asking how it was down by the river. His reply was "Fine wet fish"  eh?? I thought what does that mean when my messenger pings again to a picture of a nice trout. I could not wait to get down to the river now. Today was more about just fishing for bites to see if we could pick up a couple of fish for little lad. Simple stick float with maggots as bait. I pulled up next to Damons car just as my phone started to ring it was Damon gibbering with excitement saying you need to get here now I've got a big fish. Luckily it was a short walk from where we was so I picked up little lad and ran. From damon "After catching a brownie from one swim I moved down river in search of a few dace...

Sea fishing for the first time.

Image
I have always wanted to try sea fishing but had never had the opportunity to do so. I had a Google search and found some decent looking charters in Wales not to far but far enough to make a full day of it. I spoke to My brother and we decided we would do it. My beautiful wife then said she would pay for it for my birthday :-) so I said I would pay for my brothers and we was sorted. Booked on the charter and the date was set in April a little early in the season but the only date we could both agree on.  The only issue was we that we would be sailing from around 6.30am so I didn't fancy driving down to Conwy to get there for then so my brother offered to pay for us to stay somewhere the night before. We got down to Llandudno and stayed in a little B&B for the night before the short drive down to Conwy in the morning. We got to the meeting point and it was quite a cold morning we had no idea what to expect we had booked on with all tackle included so we needed nothing but o...

Couple hours after work

So i finished work a few hours early and decided that a couple hours fishing was needed I had my lure rods in the car and after speaking to Mike Cootes aka purple peanut the night before about his recent Blog  and catches in this local stretch I decided to see if I could catch myself a perch or 2 on lures. I had yet to catch a fish on my new lure setup a shimano yasei 3-12g rod with a daiwa ninja 1500 reel loaded with 10lb bright yellow braid. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and not another person was insight as I scrambled down the side of a bridge to the river. You have to be careful here as it is very steep. But once you are down its like you are in the middle of nowhere. Bliss. My chosen spot was the foot of the salmon ladder right next to the weir.  I started out on some small soft plastics but had no luck I've never caught on a soft plastic and really want to but it didn't seem it was going to happen today. I covered all the water before changing lure to a...

Evening on the yarrow

Image
Managed to get a couple hours pass in the evening to go fishing so I grabbed my float rod and managed to get to the tackle shop for some maggots before it closed. I had already decided I was going to fish my local river the Yarrow on Chorley. I have only ever fished this river when it has been at normal water levels but today I knew it would be high as we have had a few days heavy rain. I had my swim picked out a nice deep glide on a bend just after some shallow fast water. I have seen lots of fish moving in this stretch. (not from same day I fished) As I got to my swim I confirmed my thoughts the river was pushing through abit. But not to much it was fishable. I chucked in a handfull of maggots and some mashed bread as I setup my rig and got it set running down the swim correctly.  I must of only had about half a dozen trots when the float buried and I was in. And I had an audience as well this stretch of river is on public land and very popular for dog walkers and I h...
